Senior Patent Attorney

Avidity IP is looking for a new Senior Patent Attorney.

Overall Purpose:

The delivery of a range of outstanding patent attorney services to the firm’s clients, including Intellectual Property advice, analysis, strategic counsel and portfolio management. Actively supporting the business in acquisition of new clients and ensuring existing clients have the very best in terms of advice and service, and by truly understanding their business’ needs in exploiting their intellectual property. Supporting the Head of Avidity IP in the management of the professional team, with a specific emphasis on Life Sciences Portfolio team.

Key accountabilities:

  • Manage clients’ patent portfolios and provide the necessary support and advice either directly or through their agents.
  • Support, mentor and collaborate with more junior Avidity attorneys and support staff and ‘lead by example’ in areas such as client communications, business development and business strategy.
  • Contribute to and support the Commercial Manager in exploring new business opportunities for the company, help to identify opportunities worldwide and in particular North America.
  • Provide direct input and support in managing the portfolios of the professional attorney teams based in the company.
  • Represent Avidity IP at industry events and gatherings with the intention of enhancing the profile of the company across the IP sector.
  • Provide leadership across the Life Sciences Portfolio team in terms of raising levels of service to clients and in promoting a cultural shift towards becoming a firm with a high level of service and client welfare.
  • Take an active position of responsibility that feeds ideas and initiatives into senior management.
  • Work as part of the senior leadership team

Skills: (Essential)

  • Qualified UK and European Patent Attorney
  • Experienced IP professional with UK and international experience
  • A full understanding of the UK, EU and US patent systems and environments
  • Experience of client management in an IP environment
  • Knowledge and experience of the UPC
  • The ability to focus, prioritise and manage client and associate relationships
  • Good interpersonal skills

Skills: (Desirable)

  • Experience of European opposition and appeals practice, including representing clients at oral proceedings
  • Experience in training and developing attorneys
  • Experience of business development, including acquiring new clients
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • A willingness to travel worldwide as required.
